Talk by Laura Kelly, journalist and faculty member at the American University, Bulgaria,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the frontier of journalism today, the role\nof the audience is being disrupted and redefined. Some news sites see audience\nas knowledge partners, subscribers, co-creators. This talk will look at four\nyoung news sites from the Netherlands, the United States, Poland and\nGeorgia  that are experimenting with\nfresh ideas about how to make stories, how to fund them and who does what in\nthe story process.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laura Kelly has worked in the United States as\na newspaper reporter, radio talk show host and magazine editor. She segued into\nteaching journalism in the early \u201890s and In 1997 she began living and working\nin Central and Eastern Europe. She created a journalism program at Academia\nIstropolitana Nova in Bratislava, Slovakia; mentored journalists in Armenia, Albania\nand further afield; and was the faculty director of the Prague-based European\nJournalism Institute for 10 years. She joined the faculty at the American\nUniversity in Bulgaria in 2016. She teaches storytelling and writes a monthly\nculture column for an arts magazine based in the Southwest USA.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
